JC Economics Tuition
Features of our JC economics tuition program
Strong theoretical grounding
Our JC Economics H2 tuition program aims to provide all our students a very strong foundation in the theoretical aspects of Economics at the ‘A’ level. Instead of just going through main points and offer brief explanations, our tutors focus on giving our students a deep understanding of the concepts and principles. Each topic is taught from the most basic principles and students are taken through a journey of building their in-depth understanding of the subject matter. This ensures that any misconceptions that our students may have developed can be rooted out.
Comprehensive Notes
All our students receive comprehensive notes for each topic. These highly sought after notes, written exclusively for our students, not only help themunderstand and remember economic principles, but also serve as crucial revision material before exams and tests. The notes are designed not only to foster deep understanding, but also to aid the student in revising for exams.
Real world applications
Our program teaches students how to apply the economic concepts learnt to real world scenarios including but not limited to
· Food and Oil Crisis
· Public transport reform in Singapore
· Education
· Healthcare Reform
· Telecommunications Market in Singapore
· Japanese recession
· Mexican Crisis
· Asian Financial Crisis
· Subprime Crisis
· European Debt Crisis
Qualified Tutors
Our team of tutors are made up of former full time JC teachers as well as subject heads at top JCs. Not only are they trained at NIE, they are also trained by Cambridge Chief Examiners on how the ‘A’ level exams are marked. Whilst teaching in JCs, our tutors had won numerous accolades in both teaching and mentorship from within and outside MOE. Together with the years of full-time teaching experience each one of them possesses, and the years of preparing their students to excel at the ‘A’ levels, these tutors can offer you the valuable guidance that freelance untrained tutors and undergraduates who work part-time as tutors, who had only done relief teaching for a couple of weeks in JCs, cannot give. In addition, all our economics tutors are proficient in teaching the highly successful essay and case study skills developed and tested by our Senior Education Specialist.
Essay Skills
Our exclusive essay writing skills program teaches our students both the ‘art’ and the ‘science’ of essay writing. It develops in our students a strong writing ability that not only reflects critical thinking and application skills, but also a set of writing skills that will help them score distinctions in the essay paper. This method, developed over four years ago, and has been refined since, has helped literally over a thousand students score A grades in the past few years. Many of our students who initially get single digit scores (out of a possible 25) for their essay tests in schools end up scoring between 17 to 23 marks after several months of training with us. This set of essay writing skills are developed by our own Senior Education Specialist (Economics) Mr Gilbert Lee, and are summarised in his new book entitled ‘A Comprehensive Guide to Writing Economics Essays’.
Case Study Skills
In addition to our essay skills program, our case study skills program, which was developed around the same time, focuses on teaching our students the skills to tackle different types of questions in the case study paper. The skills are built upon feedback from Cambridge Examiners on how to gain full marks for each type of question. Many of our students joined our classes with 12 or 13 marks out of 30; but after learning our skills, and with sufficient practice, many go on to consistently score 25 to 28 marks out of 30 in school prelim exams. Like the essay skills, the case study skills were also developed by our Senior Education Specialist (Economics) Mr Gilbert Lee, who in 2010 published with Professor Anthony Chin a case study guide book entitled ‘Getting It Right: A Case Study Guide for GCE ‘A’ Level Economics’.
