Prior to joining Mr Lee’s H2 Econs class, I used to struggle with the subject, in terms of both subject matter and my ability to perform during examinations. Joining Mr Lee at the tail end of J1, I learnt macroeconomics under his guidance and came to love Economics as a subject. Mr Lee expertly explains complex Economics concepts and goes further to teach us specific details that might not be covered in school, in order to help us acquire a deeper understanding of the subject on a conceptual level. By linking concepts to real world events across history, Mr Lee makes Economics relatable and applicable to our daily lives. This helped me enjoy the subject a lot more, and appreciate its nuances as well as its impact on our lives and our society. Mr Lee also has own set of specific skills and techniques that he teaches to help us in our examinations. While different to what we may expect from what is taught in our schools, Mr Lee’s tried and tested techniques help to provide a clearer picture of what an economics essay should look like, and has helped me gain confidence to attack novel questions confidently, and aptly address the question requirements.
Beyond being a great academic tutor, Mr Lee is also a mentor who gives great life advice and never hesitates to share pearls of wisdom. Throughout J2, we were faced with many harsh challenges that the school year brought upon us, but Mr Lee, ever cognisant of these, would often give us advice and encouragement to motivate us. After underperforming during my preliminary exams, Mr Lee took the time to speak to me after class, diagnosing my weaknesses and teaching me how to address them. I heeded his advice on the run up to A levels, and adopted my mindset in accordance to what Mr Lee had advised, for the entirety of A levels. Ultimately, it paid off, and I was especially happy about my A in H2 Econs. I am grateful to Mr Lee for all his help, without which this would not be possible.

Consistently scored Es and Ds throughout my JC journey. However, after attending Mr Gilbert’s lessons, I managed to score a B in my A levels

I really enjoyed Mr Lee’s lessons. His essay plans and teaching in specific answering steps and keywords were very helpful, and I could practice writing essays and submit to him for marking, which was very useful as I could see where my gaps in answers were. During lesson, Mr Lee’s interesting stories and useful case studies kept me engaged, and I could clarify any misconceptions or questions I had. Thank you Mr Lee!!

I am extremely grateful to have had Mr. Aw as my General Paper teacher. He has an incredible ability to break down complex concepts into clear, technical strategies that help students excel. The materials he provides go beyond what is covered in school, giving us insights and knowledge that many other schools don’t delve into. His resources helped me gain a deeper understanding of the subject and clarified many misconceptions I had about GP.
His sample essays and SAQ guides, in particular, felt like ‘cheat sheets’ that guided us to succeed in exams. But Mr. Aw’s contributions extend beyond academics. He offers valuable life advice, and his sense of humor makes learning enjoyable. He is incredibly attentive to his students and has helped us develop critical thinking skills.
Overall, I was very lucky to have been his student, and I can confidently say that his guidance has had a significant impact on my academic journey.

I started attending H2 Economics lessons in Learners’ Lodge a few months into J1, and stayed all the way up till the A levels. As a student taught by Mr Gilbert Lee, I can confidently say that I enjoyed each and every single one of his lessons, even when the content of certain lessons covered concepts that I found to be more difficult. He would always break down the concepts for us such that it became clear to see the reasoning and logic behind them, and he would explain his thought-processes in a very engaging manner that made it easy and dare I say it, enjoyable to follow. He would constantly bring in real world examples so that we could see how what we learned could be applied in real life, and this really helped me to connect with the subject better as I could actually see how it was linked to the world around me.
Mr Lee did not just focus on delivering content to us. In fact, he also coached us vigorously on Question Analysis (QA) skills, and his methods were both effective and digestible. He would start from the basics of QA, making sure that we all got them down before moving on to tackle more complicated questions to analyse. He would also use a wide range of questions from multiple categories for QA, ensuring that we got a wide exposure to potential A level questions. This was incredibly helpful and in fact, a game changer, as QA was (and very much still is) a very crucial skill in order to do well for Economics. He would teach us how to identify different questions types and therefore what formats we should use respectively, and throughout his lessons, he was always very patient and willing to explain multiple times till our doubts had been clarified.
Mr Lee was also an incredibly wise and encouraging teacher. His frequently shared life advice during his classes and always urged us to persevere through difficulties. He would also tell us about random things that happened to him during the week/on holiday etc, which was really heartwarming and hilarious to listen to. It certainly brightened the mood and eased my feelings of tiredness, and it was also one of the reasons why I quickly enjoyed Econs tuition lessons with him. He always found ways to keep them engaging and also informative, and his constant encouragement to us really motivated me to work harder especially leading up to A levels. At the same time, he would also remind us that results were not the be-all and end-all, and as long as we had tried our best and carried a willingness to work hard in life, we would eventually turn out fine. I would say that as a teacher, Mr Lee did not just guide us in academics, but he also guided us in our character and attitude towards life (or at least, our life in the two years of JC).
Lastly, in the midst of the final few months before the A levels where things were ramping up and everyone’s anxiety was building, Mr Lee went out of his way to mark every single essay practice we sent to him. He was receiving hundreds of essay practices each week particularly due to the impending A levels, but he stayed up late to finish marking them so that he could return them to us as soon as possible. He would give his comments on our practices and answer questions that we had for him, whether through WhatsApp or writing his answer at the bottom of our essay scripts. All this really helped to clarify the doubts I still had on certain concepts, and his model essays that he shared with us no doubt helped immensely as well. Ultimately, I managed to get an A for Economics in the A levels, and this would not have been possible without Mr Lee’s guidance. You are an inspiration, Mr Lee, and I know your future students are in good hands!😁

Mr Koh was always willing to answer any questions I had after class or over WhatsApp, going the extra mile to ensure I understood the economics concepts well. His lessons leading up to A levels helped me understand what the A level markers were looking for when different JCs’ marking schemes sometimes told conflicting information

I greatly enjoyed going to Mr Koh’s classes as he felt like a teacher that was genuinely passionate about helping students to improve. Regardless of what stage or what skill level, he teaches in a way that encourages growth in every single person. It provided a learning environment that encouraged and nurtured love for the subject. It was refreshing to see a teacher so genuine as i previously had another tuition teacher that would constantly compare and discriminate against students who couldn’t perform to a certain standard. It generally made the learning experience suffocating and miserable. As such, i was incredibly grateful to see how Mr Koh would approach every student with understanding and patience, adapting to their needs when required. I appreciated that he was willing to answer every question i had, no matter how “dumb” it was. Despite his heavy schedule, i could feel how he wanted to give his students his best every time which also greatly motivated me to improve. He is an excellent teacher not only in his teaching methods and the way he breaks down difficult concepts, but also in his willingness to go the extra mile for the students he teaches.

Mr Koh is a passionate and patient tutor who’s very knowledgeable about econs. He relates back concepts to current situations, making it easier for students to grasp concepts. He is also patient and understanding, repeating concepts for students who may need more time to comprehend them. Overall, Mr Koh’s passion for teaching and his good-natured personality has made his lessons engaging, allowing his students to appreciate the subject even beyond the textbook.

I strongly believe that Mr Lee is one of the best Economics tutors in the whole of Singapore. With years of experience in teaching Economics, Mr Lee is able to dissect complex Economic concepts down to the fundamentals, making these concepts easier to understand. Moreover, Mr Lee engages the class through sharing his extensive knowledge of the world’s economic history, drawing links between concepts and real-world scenarios. Most importantly, Mr Lee encourages students to write more essays and provides timely feedback, facilitating the mastery of necessary skills. Evidently, Mr Lee will provide an Economics experience that is unforgettable, just like he did for me.

I found Mr Koh’s curated notes very helpful throughout my revision for H2 econs especially the macroeconomic summary sheets as it consolidated key ideas I needed to remember. Mr Koh consistently encourages us to ask questions during his classes and that made me less afraid to clarify my doubts with him both online and offline. Definitely could not have seen such a huge progress in my grades without Mr Koh’s help!
