Beyond sharing your love and passion for Economics with me, you have taught me valuable skills that are applicable to every aspect of life. Your faith and confidence in me never faltered, even when I gave up. You constantly encouraged me every week, and never failed to answer my questions beyond working hours. Without your guidance and cheerful disposition, I would not have had enough perseverance to go on with A levels. The 2 years under your wing were too short, but nonetheless, will forever be 2 years that I will remember deeply. I will always be grateful for you, thank you for being my mentor. Thank you for being a teacher that shaped my life beyond grades! :) See you soon.

Mr Phay has always been a very supportive and encouraging teacher, helping me to gain some interest in the subject that I have never managed to achieve success in, hence, through his teaching, I was able to improve from a U in JC2 Prelims to an C in A Levels.

Dear Mr Phay Teik Eng,
Before I enrolled in your classes, I was constantly failing and dreading econs. But I never knew how someone could transform such a dull subject (in my opinion then) to one that was simple to understand. Thank you for pushing me to do better and for all the laughs during lessons!

I would really want to thank Mr Phay Teik Eng for being such an excellent econs tutor. For some context, i scored an E for econs in the march block test and mid year exams before joining Mr Phay’s tuition. After joining the tuition, i scored a C in prelims and eventually an A in the A levels. I can send pictures of my exam papers as evidence. Not only is Mr Phay a tutor that would help you improve drastically in econs, his lesson is engaging too. I am someone who falls asleep very easily in classes, but I am quite sure that I didnt fall asleep a single time in Mr Phay’s classes. Overall, Mr Phay is a really effective and engaging tutor, and I feel very lucky that I have had the opportunity to be tutored by him. Thank you, both to Mr Phay and whoever is reading this.

Hello Mr Phay Teik Eng, thank you so much for the few months you spent helping me! I’m very grateful that you’ve managed to help me do well for my actual A levels exam! Thank you for teaching me all the things that my school didn’t teach me, for telling me what I should focus on and what I don’t have to study. It was easy and enjoyable to study econs thanks to you, thank you for everything and I hope you continue to help others like how you helped me!

Hi Mr Phay Teik Eng, I just want to say thank you for not only guiding us throughout A level econs but also encouraging us so often and instilling the belief that we are capable of so much more every time we slip up during exams. Because of you econs became more fun and intuitive to me and the lessons were always filled with joy and laughter. Not to mention I jumped 5 grades from the start of J2 to A levels solely because of your support and dedication. I always enjoyed participating in class discussions because they were intellectually stimulating and everyone’s responses were always affirmed in one way or another. I never thought a tuition class could leave me with such nice memories but I hope you never forget how much of a difference you made to us students. Thank you for all your effort and genuine concern.

Dear Mr Phay,
I had joined Learners’ Lodge during the preparatory course in June 2021 for H1 Econs tuition. Initially, I had not thought much of the centre; I had assumed that it was just like any other tuition centre that I’ve been to in the past.
But I was wrong.
Due to the Covid-19 safety measures, I had spent my course lessons staring at a computer screen with black squares staring back at me. However, the lessons were not boring at all, far from it. Mr Phay had an ingenious way of teaching, in which he would utilise our names while lecturing to make it seem like he was interacting with all of us in a room. He used to mention it as a part of his ‘performance’, which was what he considered his lessons to be.
I was captivated by his ability to keep an entire room of students focused on him and his teachings. He managed to take difficult economic concepts and condense them down to a whiteboard of words, and sticky notes in my brain. Whatever he had taught in a lesson, he would repeat it in the first few minutes of the next lesson. This would help me remember the economic concepts very clearly, up to a point when I was not only able to recite them fluently, I was also able to understand exactly how each economic agent worked with one another and the reasoning behind each concept.
Being a student from the Arts stream who had short timetables on Fridays, I would turn up at the centre really early (like almost 30 minutes before class starts, which is insane, yes) and Mr Phay would take the time to help me with my queries and address my misconceptions. I had mentioned earlier that Learners’ Lodge was not an ordinary tuition centre, and one reason was that Mr Phay would collect our exam papers, analyse it on his own, before returning it to us with his comments on how we can improve. He was also not afraid to speak his mind about the misconceptions that other schools had about the syllabus et cetera and I am very grateful for that because I could avoid learning about the wrong things. This was certainly not a normal thing for tuition centres to do, and I always wished that I had signed up earlier for his classes. Entertaining as they were, with his witty sense of humour, they were also full of teachings; both economic and about life.
I am forever grateful to my mother for pushing me to sign up for a class, and forever grateful for knowing Mr Phay and learning tons under him. My A in H1 Econs in the A-Levels was not just due to my hard work; it was the end result of my teachers working tirelessly behind the scenes, and Mr Phay is a forerunner there.
Thank you Learners’ Lodge, and thank you to Mr Phay for helping me achieve my A in H1 Econs. The leap from an E to an A is certainly not small and for that, I will always remember Mr Phay and Learners’ Lodge.

Hi mr phay teik eng! Although i joined your class quite late in the year you were so welcoming and understanding of my needs. Econs was one of my worst subjects but thanks to you my grades improved tremendously! You never fail to make lessons so interesting and easy to understand. Thank you for always believing in us no matter what :)
