Ms. Chen graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Economics, specialising in Monetary & Financial Economics. She also completed the University Town College Programme (Tembusu), a multidisciplinary course with a focus on cross-disciplinary learning and multi-perspectival thinking. A former student of Dunman High School, Ms. Chen was a recipient of the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) scholarship, under which she wrote a thesis on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA), earning the Ministry of Education (MOE) Outstanding Thesis Award (Silver).

Ms. Chen has always found joy in understanding the world through economics. She is committed to unpacking the subject and showing students how economics applies to their everyday lives. This love for the subject led her to make the difficult decision to turn down the MOE Teaching Scholarship, as she felt the need to explore the depth of economics outside the confines of school. While her career took her in a different direction, working in the finance industry, Ms. Chen has part time tutoring experiences, where she has helped her students demonstrate marked improvements in their exam scores.

Ms. Chen believes that it’s crucial to inspire students to develop a genuine interest in the subject, while teaching exam techniques. By making economics relatable, she fosters an appreciation that goes beyond textbook knowledge. Her background in both economics and finance allows her to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

 
Outside of work, Ms. Chen is a proud cat mum to a British Shorthair and enjoys spending her free time reading or exploring new cafes around Singapore. A coffee enthusiast, she’s always ready to talk about her beloved Moka pot collection and share her latest coffee discoveries.
